Interest in non-profit work, special needs, social work, horses, teaching, etc. (Horse knowledge is not required but comfort around horses is a must.)
College Students
Young and Junior Intern Program
The CATRA Young and Junior Intern Program is made to get students grades 3rd – 6th (Junior) and 7th – 12th (Young) to gain experience working with adults and children with special needs.
- Gain an excellent work ethic.
- Learn about horses and the field of Equine Assisted Services.
- Learn valuable leadership skills through partnering with horses.
- Learn in a safe environment.
- Make friends.
- Work alongside peers in a drama free environment.
- Build upon soft skills that all employers and colleges look for such as communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem solving, and creativity.
- Grow personally and professionally through getting out of your comfort zone.
Having fun is also a must!
An internship is designed as an exchange. The student agrees to complete work that will benefit the host organization and in return is offered the opportunity to learn new skills and to expand their knowledge of a particular field. You could be selected to apply to become a CATRA Young or Junior Intern if you display volunteering experience, demonstration of good work ethics, and a desire to help others.
In order to be a CATRA Young or Junior Intern you must volunteer for at least 2 hours a week for as long as desired after applying before you may become a Young Intern as an evaluation of your skill level to be considered for the program.
We Offer:
Miniature Horse Program.
Equine care and handling.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting participants in therapeutic riding lessons through side walking.
- Leading horses in therapeutic riding lessons.
- Prepping barn, arena, and horses for various equine assisted services.
- Assisting with trainings and events.
- Caring for the herd through feed time and daily barn chores.
